The Military and Veteran Services hosts a number of signature events throughout the year for our military-affiliated students.
This annual event brings together novice, intermediate, and experienced lifters to compete in a powerlifting competition. Partnering with Lerner Health and Wellness, this event is not only a fitness competition, but also raises funds for a veteran's nonprofit. Occuring in February, we encourage all interested to sign up! Check out gwveterans.com for more information on specific dates.
Since 2008, the week of November 9th through November 15th has been dedicated by the US government as "Veterans Awareness Week" to emphasize the need to develop educational programs regarding the contributions of veterans to the country. The George Washington University is proud to celebrate this week with a myriad of events celebrating our veterans and our military.
Each Veteran's Day, we are committed to honoring the lives of US veterans by planting hundreds of American flags in Kogan Plaza. Due to the virtual semester, all events for Veterans Month will take place online.
Check out the video below featuring GW students, faculty, and staff about Veterans Day and what this day means to them.
The Military and Veteran Services and the GW Veterans student organization present the annual Military Mile Memorial March (M4) which honors the past and celebrates the future of military-affiliated students at the George Washington University.
This family-friendly event kicks off with a 5K Run/Walk through the National Mall and it’s memorial parks. Student veterans from GW will lead participants on a themed tour to the Washington Monument, the World War II Memorial, the Korean War Veterans Memorial, the Vietnam Veterans Memorial, and the Veterans Park at GW.
Participants can choose to do the tour as a 5k walk or as a jog; all ability levels are welcome!
More information on the 2020-2021 M4 coming soon.
