VA Work Study Program

Join our VA Work Study Program at George Washington University! Military & Veteran Services (MVS) offers employment opportunities for military-affiliated students who are utilizing their VA education benefits while attending GW. Through this program, students can work between 8-25 hours per week, performing administrative tasks and assisting fellow military-affiliated students and their families with process or benefits questions. Approved students can begin working 30 days before the first day of school, earning DC minimum wage. This is a fantastic opportunity to gain valuable experience while supporting your peers!

 

Eligibility: 

  • Be receiving VA education benefits (Chapter, 30, 31, 33, 35 or 1606).
  • Agree to work no less than 8 hours per week and no more than 25 hours per week.
  • Must be registered for the upcoming semester at a minimum of ¾ time.
  • Must request certification via GWeb prior to the date the application is due. 
  • Complete the Application for Work-Study Allowance (valid for 1 year)

Degree Type
You must work at least 8 hours a week and no less than 2 consecutive hours a day on the days that you are working. For example, a student can work 3 hours on Monday and 5 hours on Friday, but not less than 2 hours on an individual day or less than 8 hours for the week.  
In order to do work study, you must be attending school at least 3/4 time. For Graduate students, this means more than 7 credit hours. For Undergraduate students, this means more than 9 credit hours. For summer, the full time rate for both grad and undergrad is 6 credit hours.

"The Office of Military and Veteran Affairs plays a pivotal role in certifying students to utilize their education benefits. As a work study in this department, your primary responsibilities will include promptly addressing inquiries from students via phone and email, with a specific focus on addressing concerns related to their military benefits. Additionally, we are looking for candidates who can contribute to promoting events, assisting with social media management, participating in website design, and aiding in newsletter editing.
