TERMS AND CONDITIONS FOR USE OF COMMUNITY SPACE

The GW Military Community Center (MCC)  is located at 2035 F Street NW, Washington, DC 20052 on the George Washington University Foggy Bottom campus (“Community Space”). The Community Space includes a front desk/resource office, a living room/lounge, offices for professional staff and military student organizations, a conference area room, kitchenette, and two bathrooms. It is both a professional and social space for GW’s military and veteran affiliated community. 

Access to and use of the Community Space will be granted via GWorld tap access to members of the GW’s military and veteran affiliated community who have signed this acknowledgement of the below Terms and Conditions from 7am to 9pm, Monday through Friday, with access granted 9am-5pm on Saturdays and Sundays during the semester.

Members of GW’s military affiliated community (“GW Students”) must agree to abide by the Terms and Conditions set forth below to receive access to the Community Space. All individuals utilizing the Community Space shall adhere to all GW policies, including, but not limited to, the GW Code of Student Conduct: https://studentconduct.gwu.edu/code-student-conduct 

The GW Office of Military and Veteran Services (MVS) reserves the right to revise, amend, or change the terms of these Terms and Conditions at any time with the best interests of GW’s military and veteran affiliated community. Any changes will be discussed with leaders of the housed student organizations prior to implementation. 

GW Students who fail to abide by these Terms and Conditions will have their access to the Community Space revoked and, depending on the violation, could face additional sanctions.Community Members agree to abide by the following rules and expectations:

  1. Space Responsibility
    • MVS will submit and manage all Division of Operations “FixIt” tickets for the space.
  2. Health and Safety
    • Ensure appliances and lights are turned off and that the door is completely shut and locked if you are the last to leave.
    • Per University policy, smoking is not allowed inside or within 25ft of the property (brick sidewalk adjacent to street is okay). Dispose of cigarette butts responsibly.
    • Report any facilities emergencies (eg. Door not securing, leaks, damages) directly to Facilities at 202-994-6706 x2 and MVS to submit a Fix It request.
    • Keep all doors and access areas clear and easily accessible by all students.
    • Do not enter the Community Space if you have a fever or other illness.
  3. Cleanliness
    • Return any items to their proper places before you leave.
    • Take out the large trash to the exterior bins. There will not be cleaning on weekend days and GW Students are responsible for taking out all trash over the weekend.
    • All GW Students with access to the Community Space will participate in cleaning duties on a rotating schedule determined by student leadership.
    • Lockers and refrigerators used to store personal items will be emptied before the start of any non-business day.
    • Any items left unaccompanied in the Community Space remain the responsibility of the owner. GW is not responsible for any personal property of those who utilize the Community Space which may be lost, damaged, or stolen or for any loss thereof occasioned by fire, the elements, or other casualty including water damage.
    • Individuals utilizing the Community Space must remove all personal property from the Community Space. Any items left in the Community Space constitute abandoned property which may be immediately disposed of by GW in its sole discretion.
  4. Use of Community Space
    • GWorld tap access will only be granted to currently enrolled and continuing students and may only be provided by GW MVS staff.
    • The conference room space may be used as quiet student space when not in use by professional staff or as a space for resource providers. GW Students are expected to be respectful of students using the quiet space and the professional staff upstairs.
    • Only Navy ROTC members are allowed to access the basement area or the Navy ROTC townhouse.
    • All members of GW’s military and veteran affiliated community and their guest(s) are free to use the Community Space without fear of discrimination.
    • Student organizations using the Community Space must be registered and in good standing with GW.
  5. Guests
    • GW Students are responsible for guests and their behavior at all times.
    • GW Students must accompany their guests at all times while using the Community Space.
    • Guests of GW Students must also comply with all terms and conditions set forth herein.
    • GW reserves the right to exclude any guests from the Community Space who are disruptive or who violate any applicable GW policy.
  6. Prohibited Items
    • Alcohol*
    • Except during registered events
    • Drugs not prescribed to the individual carrying the prescribed drugs.
    • Weapons or other hazardous materials
  7. Prohibited Activities
    • Residing in any part of the space.
    • Excessive personal displays of affection or sexual activity of any kind.
    • Smoking of any kind (including e-cigarettes, vapes, etc.)
  8. Community Standards

The continued availability of space for student use is contingent upon a shared sense of ownership and responsibility. All students accessing the space are expected to adhere to the Terms and Conditions set forth herein and the GW Code of Student Conduct. 

GW Students observing violations or items not in compliance have the responsibility to promptly report the items or behaviors to MVS staff and/or GWPD.

Enforcement University officials will periodically monitor the Community Space to ensure compliance with these policies. Any GW Student or guest utilizing the Community Space must provide GWPD or any university official with identification upon request and must comply with directions of University officials in performance of their duties.

Non-Compliance and Loss of Access Privileges

GW Students who fail to comply with university policies or the terms set forth in these Terms and Conditions may lose temporary or permanent access privileges to the Community Space for themselves and/or their organization depending on the severity and frequency of the violations.

Any GW Students found in violation of the GW Code of Student Conduct will be subject to adjudication through the Office of Student Rights and Responsibilities. The GW MVS and/or GW Veterans student organization leadership reserve the right to indefinitely suspend access to all individuals with serious violations. 

Students and/or organizations not complying with these Terms and Conditions will meet with GW MVS staff and, if appropriate, student organization leadership to discuss consequences, which may include revocation of use of Community Space.

By my signature below, I acknowledge that I will abide by the policies and expectations governing the use of the GW MCC and will report any violations immediately.
