VA Education Benefits Update
GW students who have elected to use VA education benefits for Fall 2025 and submitted all required documentation have been certified to the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA). Students entitled to tuition payments (sent directly to GW), monthly housing allowances, and/or stipends (sent directly to the student) will receive their entitlements; however, processing may be delayed due to the ongoing government shutdown.
We recognize that students using Chapter 35 (Dependents’ Educational Assistance) benefits have been particularly affected by these delays. Our current policy protects students using Chapter 31 or Chapter 33 with Yellow Ribbon from registration holds and late fees, while all others (Chapters 30, 35, 1606, and 33 without Yellow Ribbon) are only protected from holds. Military & Veteran Services is working closely with the Office of Student Accounts on ways to protect all VA benefits users from both registration holds and late fees during this period.
During the shutdown, GW’s School Certifying Officials do not have direct contact with the VA, including the VetSuccess on Campus (VSOC) Counselor and Veteran Readiness Counselors (VRCs). We appreciate your patience and understanding, and encourage you to reach out to our office with any questions or concerns.

GW Vets and Alumni Networking Mixer | Friday, Oct 24 | 6 - 8 p.m. | Froggy Bottom
It’s Alumni and Families Weekend at GW, and the Office of Alumni Relations, with GW Vets, will be hosting a networking mixer at Froggy Bottom. If you’re a GW student and want to meet GW alumni in the career field you’re interested in, or if you’re an alum interested in mentoring, this is your chance to connect.
MVS Open House | Saturday, Oct 25 | 1 p.m. - to 3 p.m. | MCC
To close out Alumni and Families Weekend, MVS will host an Open House at the Military Community Center. Come by the townhouse to meet the MVS staff and share your best GW stories. There will be light refreshments and plenty of good company.
Art Therapy | Friday, Nov 14 | 1 p.m. | MCC
MVS and GW Vets are excited to partner again with the GW Art Therapy Clinic this fall!
Veterans Appreciation Week | Monday, Nov 10 to Friday, Nov 14
Join us for a week of appreciation for our GW student, staff, and faculty veterans. We’ll be sending out more information in the coming days on how you can participate. There will be GW Women’s and Men’s basketball games honoring veterans, a lunch ceremony with a special GW guest speaker, a BBQ, and more.
