On Tuesday, October 18th, GW VALOR partnered with the Graduate School of Public Policy to host a VALOR in Politics event at the Arts Club of Washington. The event featured Under Secretary of the Army Patrick J. Murphy as the guest speaker. Over twenty-five people attended, including the current Assistant Secretary of Labor for Veterans' Employment and Training.

Under Secretary of the Army Patrick Murphy spoke about his transition from the Army to the civilian world, from the civilian world to Congress, and eventually from Congress to being appointed the Under Secretary of the Army. After he spoke for about thirty minutes, he answered questions about how his service in the Army affects him in his current role as Under Secretary, how his Irish Catholic faith affected his service as a Congressman, and his support for the Affordable Care Act.

GW VALOR was very honored to have the Under Secretary come and speak to our military veteran and dependent students. We are tremendously grateful that he was able to come and speak to us, and is welcomed back at any time! Our thanks to the Arts Club of Washington for their continued support of GW VALOR. Last but not least, thank you to all that attended! We hope the VALOR in Politics series continues to be successful and grow in popularity.

For those who are interested in future events, great! Know that there are no requirements to attend our events, any student or faculty member are welcome. Please email gwvalor@gwu.edu for more information.
