Admitted Student Checklist - Using Tuition Assistance (TA)

Students using Tuition Assistance (TA) benefits should follow these steps after they are admitted to GW:

1. Speak with your Educational Services Officer (ESO) or counselor within your Military Service about policies and procedures and things to do prior to enrolling at GW.

2. Visit the degree map tab under "Student Records" in GWeb to view your degree plan and graduation requirements as well as any credits that have transferred that count towards your degree.

3. ARMY TA: If you plan on using Army TA, please email us your degree title, degree plan, and classes that you will be using for TA. Without this information, we will not be able to process your TA on ArmyIgnitED. You will need to send us the classes you plan to have TA pay BEFORE each semester.

4. Be sure to request your military branch’s TA well before the start date for the course. TA is approved on a course by course basis. If the TA is not approved, then the service member, not the Service, will be responsible for payment.

5. Be aware that all courses requested must be part of your evaluated educational plan, or count as prerequisites for your program, or be required for a higher level educational program (as approved by your service branch).

6. Be aware of the Top-Up option of using Dept. of Veteran Affairs benefits - Post 9/11 GI Bill®* (Chapter 33) or Montgomery GI Bill® (Chapter 30). For more information, contact GW's Office of Military and Veteran Services. GW's point of contact for financial or academic counseling, including disability counseling, and GW's student support services is April Clark. April's contact information is: phone: 202-994-9570 or [email protected].

7. Please scan and submit all Tuition Assistance authorizations to [email protected] and [email protected]gwu.edu. Please include your first and last name, student ID number, and the last four numbers of your SSN.
